Ethics, Beliefs and Cultures

It is difficult to understand the world we live in without the understanding of people's Ethics, Beliefs and Cultures. EBC gives our students a unique opportunity to explore  different ways we can participate in society and appreciate the unique world we live in. Through EBC we are able to uncover the issues of ethics and the questions facing society today. It also gives our students an opportunity to explore different ways of thinking with the introduction of philosophy. We incorporate Poly values by encouraging students to want to improve the local community through active engagement. It is through EBC where our students get a strong understanding of how our democracy and justice system work and are able to investigate where power and influence really lies. We ask that our students come to lessons with an open mind and a willingness to contribute to lively discussions and debates.

the right of withdrawal

In line with national legislation, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) in any school. This can be done without providing a reason.

We encourage families to understand the aims and content of our RE curriculum before making a decision, and we are happy to discuss any questions. If a withdrawal is requested, please make clear whether it applies to the whole curriculum or specific elements. Requests should be directed to the Headteacher, Ms L Williams.

If a pupil is withdrawn from RE, the school will provide supervision but is not required to offer alternative teaching. Pupils may work in another supervised area of the school during this time.

Parents should be aware that aspects of religion, belief, identity and diversity may arise naturally in other curriculum subjects - such as history, PSHE or citizenship - from which there is no right of withdrawal.
