Attendance

  • Excellent attendance to school is very important if your daughter is to take full advantage of the opportunities available to her at the Poly and make excellent progress.
  • If your daughter is not feeling completely well, remember that often students feel better once they are at school and taking part.
  • If in any doubt, please send your daughter to school and should she become too ill to be in school we will contact you to make the necessary arrangements.
  • If your daughter does not arrive at school, and we have not had notification from you, you will receive a message asking you to contact us with the reason that she is absent.
  • Please remember that we expect all students to have a minimum of 97% attendance and rewards will be given for those that achieve 100%.
  • PLEASE NOTE: ANY HOLIDAYS TAKEN IN TERM TIME WILL BE UNAUTHORISED ABSENCES.
REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCE

As you may already be aware, we use the student absence reporting system called Studybugs.  This system is quick and easy to use. The only way you will be able to inform the school of your child’s absence will be via Studybugs.

Reminder, please only register student absence only through the Studybugs app. Please do not use this app to report that your child is late. When a student is late to school, when they arrive they will sign in via our check in system at reception and will be marked in the register as late.

If you have not signed up to Studybugs, use the following link: https://studybugs.com/about/parents

Thank you for your support.

Studybugs frequently asked questions:

What time should parents/carers report an absence by?

As early as possible, only on the day of the absence. You cannot mark an absence for a future day in the week.

What happens is a parent/carer does not report an absence?

An automatic studybugs message will be sent out to the parent/carer. After 2 days of absence the form tutor will phone the parent/carer.

Can parents/carers still phone in to report absence?

No, we all encourage all parents/carers to use the studybugs app.

Top 3 reasons to use Studybugs

  1. It’s integrated with our systems so we know right away if your child is unaccounted for.
  2. It’s quick and easy to register and use and automatically reminds you to keep us posted.
  3.  You’ll be helping the NHS and other public health organisations improve children’s health. (https://studybugs.com/about/schools)

PUNCTUALITY
  • All students are expected to be in school on time every day. School begins at 8.30am, this means that students should be in the playground ready to line up at this time, so we advise that your daughter arrives at school by 8.25am.
  • If your daughter is late, she must sign in at reception upon her arrival and will be kept behind after school that day for an hour.
  • If your daughter is going to be late due to an appointment, then please call the school in advance to let us know or provide her with proof of the appointment to show the school office.
  • We are very strict when it comes to punctuality as lateness causes so much disruption to the school day for the student that is late and others.
  • It is also good preparation for the world beyond school –appointments, meetings, trains, and planes will not wait for someone that is late!
