Woolwich Polytechnic Sixth Form - Open Evening 2023

It is with tremendous pride that Woolwich Polytechnic Sixth Form, rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, celebrates the success of the Class of 2023.
47% of our students received A* - B grades, with a significant number continuing their academic pathways at Russell Group universities, including Cambridge, Edinburgh, and Warwick amongst others.
Head of School, Mr Tom Lawrence states, "Our class of 2023 have done themselves proud and nearly all have achieved their first-place offers or high-end apprenticeships, securing an average grade that matches 2019 and 2022. We have many students again going to illustrious Russell Group universities. The results day itself has been a great day of rightful celebration for staff and students. All these enormous achievements have been made against a backdrop of significantly tougher marking, particularly at the top end."
This sentiment is shared by Mr Tim Plumb, CEO of PolyMAT, "After such hard work through challenging times, it was fantastic to see so many students with happy faces, being rewarded with progression to university and apprenticeships. This is why we all work so hard, to change lives and ensure ‘Success for Everyone’ that will last for many years to come."
Ms Hannah Elliott, Head of Sixth Form, comments: “I am so proud of all our students here at Woolwich Poly. Each of them has shown resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Year on year, our results echo our school ethos of ‘Tomorrow's Leaders’ demonstrating the dedication and commitment of the students themselves, as well as our hardworking staff and supportive wider community. We look forward to seeing the future successes of our students as our Sixth Form expands next year to accommodate Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls.”

Dear Parent/Carer,
We are a service working with your school to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of your children. Some of you may have already been in touch or heard of us through your school’s Head of year/ teacher/inclusion lead/SENco or counsellor.
We will continue to offer our service throughout the summer holidays and wanted to encourage all parents to get in touch with us if you have any concerns regarding your child’s emotional wellbeing and mental health at this difficult time. Interventions will be offered face to face at High point house at Shooters Hill or virtually via MS Teams whichever works best for the young person.
We offer 6-8 sessions of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) based support for child/ young person. We offer Adolescent anxiety intervention and/or Low mood intervention.
If you have noticed that your child seems more worried than usual, reluctant to engage in their everyday activities, having difficulties with their behaviour or noticed a change in their sleep/eating habits which could be related to emotions and mood, then we may be able to help.
To speak to one of our team about how we might be able to support you, please email the address below:

A member of our team will then contact you over the phone to think about what kind of support you and your child would benefit from and set up a meeting with one of our Education Mental Health Practitioners if this feels right for you.
Yours sincerely,

On Saturday 15th July 2023 27 members of staff at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is 24-miles (38.6km) round trip route and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These hills form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
'Our coach trip was epic, and our journey started with a lack of sleep before we even started. It was extremely challenging! We started off at 6am with 27 of us - by Peak 3, 9 of us were left standing. It was a great weekend of team building and overcoming our own individual barriers. I am extremely proud of everyone who came along, and it is a privilege to work alongside such caring and supportive colleagues.'
Ms Williams
It was relentless. On all levels. 12+ hours of non-stop walking with only 3 minutes breaks is brutal in itself. Then throw in high winds, rain, hail, thunder and lightning, and some mental climbing. I am broken but what an achievement.'
Ms Holmes
'Thoroughly enjoyed climbing the Yorkshire Peaks. I internally cried but externally laughed so much thanks to my colleagues - well worth it!'
Ms Adkins
'Celebration evening is my favourite event of the school year because I love getting the opportunity to really celebrate our students achievements in a big way! It's lovely to see all the different prizes that the departments put together for our subject winners and to see the excitement on the students faces when they receive them. I'm always especially proud of those students that go above and beyond to win our special prizes too, they truly are special and mean so much to the students who win them. Our guest speakers this year were outstanding, and we're so grateful to have had them come along and share their stories to further inspire our students to achieve great things personally and academically. We are so proud of all our winners!'

On Wednesday 5th July the staff at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls took 10 students from Year 7 -9 on a hike into the countryside where they walked for 7 miles. The main purpose of this outing was to build character and teamwork. The students were great and worked so well together even when they began to get tired. The joy and wonder throughout the afternoon was wholesome.
