  • Ofsted Report 2023 - Fantastic News!

    Published 10/03/23

We are extremely proud of what we have achieved in the last 18 months since schools fully reopened following the Covid pandemic. This was our first Ofsted report since we opened in 2019, and I am delighted that this was recognised by the visiting Ofsted Inspection Team.  The many strengths highlighted in the report are testament to the hard work and dedication shown by our staff body to ensure the very best for all of our girls.

Our students are our greatest gift, and we will continue to put our best efforts into developing them, both academically and personally. We are excited for what the future holds for the school and our students as we strive to achieve our shared vision of 'Success for Everyone'.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank every single person in our school community and beyond who has contributed to our journey so far: our celebration is very much a shared one!

  • International Women's Day 2023 - Photographs & article

    Published 08/03/23

What an amazing day we have had at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls celebrating International Women's Day.

We firstly want to say a huge thank you to Wishful Winks for making our school look so beautiful with so many wonderful balloons and decorations. These decorations really added to the atmosphere and fun of the day.

These are just a few pictures of our school, looking very purple!

Our whole school community spent the day celebrating International Women's Day. This year the theme was #EmbracingEquity.  Our guest speaker Jade Barnett came in and shared her story with Year 9 and 10 students and showed them how Equity has enabled her to become very successful despite a really difficult journey in her life.

We had dozens of brilliant women come and talk to our Key Stage 3 students about their careers and every single one of them was so impressed with our students' questions and the way that they interacted with them; they have all agreed to come back again next year!

Isabelle Knight was one of our guest speakers and had some lovely words to say about our school and the event:

'I spent IWD today speaking to Year 7 & 9 girls at a local secondary school, to tell them all about my career in a “Career Hop” event.

One thing that was worth celebrating - a whole sports hall full of women talking about what it’s like to be a working woman in today’s world with the young women who will form the next generation.

We have a duty as women to let girls know about our achievements, to show them how far they can go and encourage them to imagine the endless possibilities for their own futures.

So pleased to have been included in this brilliant event. Thank you Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls.'

There were several workshops throughout the day, with students learning about Equity and what it means and then using that to be creative and think about women that inspire them.  Our Year 10 students supported our Year 7 and 8 students with learning about spoken word and its power to get your message across, our 6th form students from Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys came to share their insights into GCSE options.  We're really grateful to the older students who gave up their time to share their skills and knowledge with the younger ones.

Our Year 10 Founders team also organised and ran a lot of the day, showing how much our students rise to the challenge of responsibility and succeed.

How wonderful does Ms Smith and Ms Alejo look in their purple outfits!

Our amazing catering team Wilson Jones provided a themed lunch today in honour of IWD. They also baked and created special edition International Women's Day muffins with all profits made being donated to the Girls Opportunity Alliance.

Overall, it was a wonderful day and we're really proud of our whole school community and how they used the day to raise one another up.

Already looking forward to next year!

Plan for Wednesday 8th March 2023

    • We have Jade Barnett coming in to talk to Year 9 and 10 students - she is a motivational speaker, an Advocate for Youth Inclusion and Opportunity and works with various organisations including being a senior member of the Violence Reduction Unit's Young People's Action Group and a Youth Development Lead for the Prince's Trust.

Information for parents/carers:                                                                        Students wearing purple items on Wednesday 8th march 2023

    Dear Parents/Carers,

    Re: International Women’s Day

We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on Wednesday 8th March.

“International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for moving towards gender parity.” (The International Women’s Day Website)

This year the theme is #EmbracingEquity. Students will be taking part in a variety of activities during the day to promote this, including meeting dozens of female visitors from a wide variety of jobs and having the opportunity to ask them questions about their career paths and experiences.

The International Women’s Day organisation use the colour purple in their promotional materials, so we ask all students and staff to wear something purple to school for IWD.  We won’t be asking for donations this year; this will simply be to raise awareness of the event and to join in with the theme.

Students can choose to wear an item or combination of items that are purple from the following list:

      • Purple socks/tights
      • Purple shirt
      • Purple tie
      • Purple ribbon/badges
      • Purple hair accessories

(Purple make up/nails are not allowed)

Full school uniform should be worn in addition to any of the above items.

    Yours faithfully,

    Ms H Zbrzezniak
