To celebrate British Science Week and this year’s theme of Curiosity, our Year 8 students at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls took part in an exciting Science show delivered by the Royal Institution of Science.

The session explored Energy in Food, and students were fully engaged as the presenter demonstrated how different foods release energy in surprising ways. From dramatic examples using methane gas to explanations of how the body converts food into usable energy, the show brought science to life in a fun and memorable way.

This hands‑on experience helped deepen students’ understanding of energy while sparking plenty of curiosity - exactly what British Science Week aims to inspire.
