Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls Celebrates Another Outstanding Year of GCSE Success

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls (WPG) is delighted to announce another exceptional set of GCSE results for 2026, marking the third consecutive year of strong academic success and reinforcing the school's commitment to excellence, aspiration, and achievement.

In a national landscape that continues to evolve following post-pandemic adjustments, WPSfG students have once again risen to the challenge, delivering results that reflect their determination, resilience, and hard work, alongside the unwavering dedication of staff and support from families.

This year's results highlight outstanding achievement across a wide range of subjects, with particularly impressive outcomes in English, Mathematics, Science and French.

Key highlights include:

• 75% of students achieved a strong pass (Grade 5+) in GCSE English
• GCSE Mathematics success surges, with increased numbers of students achieving high Grades 6+ and 7+
• 38% of students achieved Grade 7 or above in English
• 74% achieved Grade 7+, 53% Grade 8+ in GCSE Chemistry
• 58% achieved Grade 7 or above, 37% Grade 8+ in GCSE French
• 57% achieved Grade 6+ in Citizenship
• 51% achieved Grade 6+ in Geography

Although Progress 8 measures are not being published this year, the school's internal analysis demonstrates continued strong progress and achievement across the cohort, with students consistently performing above expectations.

The results reflect WPG's continued focus on high standards, inclusion and ensuring every student can fulfil their potential. Across the year group, students secured excellent grades, with many achieving outcomes significantly above national expectations.

We are particularly proud of the progress made by key student groups, our commitment to excellence, equity, ambition, and personalised support.

These results are the product of years of hard work, resilience, and determination, supported by dedicated staff and families who have encouraged our students every step of the way. At Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls, we believe in the potential of every young person, and today's results are testament to what can be achieved through ambition, resilience, commitment, and excellence. Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls' Celebration Evening 2026

On Thursday 9th July 2026, Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls proudly hosted its annual Celebration Evening, bringing together students, families, staff and guests to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our young women over the past academic year.

The evening showcased the very best of our school community, highlighting the dedication, resilience, leadership and excellence demonstrated by students across all year groups. From subject awards and pastoral awards to prefect badge presentations and special recognition prizes, the event gave us the opportunity to celebrate the many successes achieved both inside and outside the classroom.

Guests enjoyed a programme hosted by members of the Head Prefect Team, alongside inspiring performances from our talented Singing Ensemble and Concert Band. The evening also featured guest speakers Vanessa Adwoa Simpson, Marketing and Brand Manager for Creme of Nature UK and Revlon UK, and former WPSfG student Kiran, who shared their experiences and words of encouragement with our students. 

Throughout the evening, awards were presented to students across Years 7 to 10, recognising achievement in subjects ranging from English, Mathematics and Science to Music, Sport, Computing and the Arts. Special awards also celebrated students who embody our values through leadership, resilience, kindness, ambition and service to the wider school community. 

It was wonderful to see so many families joining us to celebrate the achievements of their daughters and to acknowledge the hard work, determination and perseverance that have led to their success.

A huge thank you to our students, staff, parents and carers for their continued support throughout the year. Together, we continue to build a culture where every student is encouraged to thrive, achieve and fulfil their potential.

One of the most brilliant long-standing events at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls took place today, and what a fantastic celebration it was!

Firstly, a huge thank you to Miss Seale for coordinating the event. So much hard work happens behind the scenes, from organising auditions and rehearsals to decorating the space and ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day.

A massive thank you also goes to all of our performers. More than 35 different groups were showcased, representing cultures and countries from across the world. The talent, energy and pride on display were truly incredible. A special mention must also go to our Poly Dance Crew staff team, whose surprise performances delighted the audience and added even more excitement to the celebrations! 

Thank you to all staff who supported the event throughout the day and helped make it such a success. A special thank you also to our Premises Team, whose hard work behind the scenes helped bring everything together.

Today was filled with wonderful memories, amazing music, energetic dancing and beautiful cultural dress. Flags were proudly worn and displayed throughout the day as we came together to celebrate the diversity that makes our school community so special.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the event such a success.

Culture Day 2026 | Samba Band

Dear Families,

Due to the current weather forecast, we have made some adjustments to the school day on Thursday 9 July 2026 and Friday 10 July 2026. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our priority. While we continue to take measures to keep the school environment as comfortable as possible, forecast temperatures of up to 33°C may result in significantly higher temperatures inside some areas of the building. 

Important Information

Students who have been invited to attend the Prize Giving Evening should return to school at 4:00pm.

Families attending the event should arrive from 4:30pm.

Culture Day Participants

Selected students who are participating in Culture Day will need to remain in school to rehearse for the event on the 09/07/2026 and 10/7/2026. Rehearsals will be 12pm-3.30pm on both days. Students participating have been informed.

Students Remaining in School

We have a limited number of air-conditioned rooms available. If you would like your daughter to remain in school on 9 July 2026 or 10 July 2026, please email info@woolwichpolygirls.co.uk, and we will do our best to accommodate this request. Please see the amended school day times below:

Dear Families,

Re: Friday 26th June 2026 Plans

The Met Office has issued an Amber Alert for Friday 26th June 2026. There is the possibility of this changing to a Red Alert as temperatures are expected to exceed 34 Celsius. Please see below the revised mings for the school day on Friday 26th June along with updated arrangements for Year 10 PPE exams on that day.

Plans for Thursday 25th June remains as previously communicated.

Uniform Expectations

• Students may wear their PE kit on the 25th and 26th June if they choose.
• If your daughter wishes to wear a skirt or trousers and her school shirt, she may leave her blazer and tie at home.
• Crocs or flip flops are not permitted as they are not safe footwear for moving around the school site.
• Students should still bring their lanyard and other equipment for the school day.

Additional Information

We expect the school to open and operate as normal from Monday 29th June 2026.

We have a limited number of air‑conditioned spaces available and can accommodate some students on site until 3:00pm if required. If you would like your daughter to remain in school for the full day, please email: info@woolwichpolygirls.co.uk
